Introducing Charlene: Before Law SchoolCharlene E. Philbrook was born in Portland, Maine, and is a 1986 graduate of the University of Southern Maine. The life effects of her own divorce, especially the financial impact on not only herself, but the emotional impact on her daughter as well, is what inspired her to become a lawyer.
Introducing Charlene: Starting To Practice Law
After her 1989 graduation from Western New England School of Law, Charlene entered private law practice in Massachusetts where her practice focused on all matters impacting family life such as divorce, paternity, child support, child custody issues, visitation issues, bankruptcy, guardianships, trusts, wills and the probating of estates. While practicing in Massachusetts she was often appointed by various Courts of the Commonwealth to serve as Guardian-Ad-Litem to investigate on behalf of the appointing Court a variety of child related matters such as custody, parental contact and visitation.
Introducing Charlene: The Move Home To Maine
In 2007, desiring to no longer live as a Mainer in exile, Charlene became licensed to practice law in the State of Maine and returned home to Maine. Joining a small firm in Maine, she continued to work in civil law with a focus on the issues facing today’s families such as foreclosure defense, real estate, divorce, paternity, child support and child custody issues, visitation agreements, bankruptcy as well as estates, both estate planning and estate preparation.
Introducing Charlene: Practicing Law in Maine
An experienced litigator, Charlene is admitted to practice in all courts of the State of Maine as well as the Maine District (Federal) Court and Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine. Additionally, Charlene is licensed in all courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Charlene has also received training as a mediator and in the practice of collaborative law.
Charlene has now opened her own civil law practice with offices in Portland, Maine, and Dayton, Maine. Her extensive experience in domestic relations work, family law, foreclosure defense, real estate, estate planning and the probating of estates enables her to provide a wide range of civil legal services to clients. Her background in litigation, mediation and court appointed investigation enables her to assess a client’s issues from multiple angles and suggest various potential strategic resolutions. Providing courteous and professional attention on an individual basis, Charlene works hard with her clients to obtain a practical and satisfactory result to her client’s legal issues.
Introducing Charlene: The Present Time
Currently residing in Dayton, Maine, Charlene is civic-minded and involved in various community groups. In her spare time, of which there is far too little it seems at times, Charlene enjoys gardening and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys traveling to and visiting lighthouses throughout the New England states and hopes to travel to other regions of the United States in the future.
